Easily monitor the condition of several engines simultaneously
with accurate condition indicators
AlphaSystem™ is a multi-engine diagnostics solution. It is suitable for all kinds of combustion engines and fuel types. It analyses the overall thermal and mechanical operating condition of the engine and provides cylinder specific data.
AlphaSystem™ provides two global condition indicators for the mechanical and thermal condition of the engine. Cylinder specific indicators are available for deviations in compression, injection timing and condition as well as the dynamic behaviour of bearings and moving parts. Additionally, AlphaSystem™’s supplemental general indicators provide information on mechanical stresses, mechanical engine imbalance,
dynamic torsion of the crankshaft, power imbalance between cylinder banks, power losses and torsional vibration damper activity.
Diesel Engine Injector Failures
In this example, tests were run on a GE 7FDL-16 railway engine. Individual injectors were blocked to verify that injector failures are correctly identified by AlphaSystem™.
The left dashboard shows AlphaSystem™‘s diagnostic results under normal operation at 4500 HP. The right dashboard shows the result under the same operating conditions, but with a blocked injector on cylinder R5. AlphaSystem™ is clearly able to identify the fault, and the operating condition indicator signals that overall efficiency of the engine is reduced.
Misfiring on Gas Engines
AlphaSystem™ is not only suitable as a powerful diagnostic tool for diesel engines. Misfiring events which are specific to gas engines can also be detected reliably.
In this case from the field, AlphaSystem™ detected a defect spark plug on 16th January and signaled a misfiring condition. The Superior 16SGTD engine was operated until 21st January and then inspected. The graph above shows AlphaSystem™‘s operating condition indicator before and after the spark plug failure and after maintenance was performed.
