AlphaSystem™ provides condition indicators to detect bearing fatigue, mechanical damage of bearing components and power losses.

By using the built in speed sensor on the axle of a railway vehicle, AlphaSystem™ is able to detect defects and impending issues on axle bearings.

In the particular case of a Stadler railcar GTW 2/6, measurements taken before and after bogie maintenance were analyzed and compared. The above image shows the clear difference between the values of AlphaSystem™‘s bearing condition indicator before and after maintenance was performed. With AlphaSystem™, the railway operator can use this indicator to transition from time-based to condition-based maintenance processes.
